Crackship Friday

previously

"It's not like I'm going to war?" Jared squinted hard. It was just a month. "What are you so afraid of?" She did look scared. "Who do you think I'm gonna meet up there, Big Foot?" He tried to make her smile, but Monica didn't smile much. It looked as if their little spot of tea was over.

Jared nursed his bottom lip, wondering what else he could say. This was decided long before he met her. Of course, at the time he applied for this, he was thinking he'd never meet anyone again.

"I-I can't just give you up like that." She pouted as if this was wrong. He could not go to Canada. She was quiet then as she put the tea away and cleaned up after him. Suddenly, it was so formal. "I want to go with you." She finally said as if she didn't want to, but a whisper prevailed.

Jared grinned as he watched her.

"I-I really can't see you, you know, in a cabin up there roughing it, you know." He shrugged.

"Its not fair." She almost shouted.

"I'll be back before you know it." He leaned in and touched the back of her shoulders. He smelled her sweet perfumed hair. He couldn't help but want to wrap himself around her. "Look, I'll be around so much until I leave, that you'll make me leave."

"Really?" She turned and looked up at him. The side of her face leaned into his chest. She hugged him as if she'd never let him go. Suddenly, he felt as if he'd been planted somewhere new, yet he felt as if had to give back, some how. His fingers were softly in her hair. And it was the moment he knew, she was different from anyone he'd ever met. She simply wanted him. Cherished him. A feel of hope and happiness slowly settled through him. Suddenly, it felt so important to be here. Making every moment count.

"What do you want to do first?" He nuzzled her closer.

"I have this birthday party to go too. Would you come?" She sounded as if she might be going in to have her wisdom teeth pulled.

Jared's faint smile grew.

"I guess I could do that," he said.
