character notes - Diago from Alex Sanchez's BAIT

I have to admit one of my favorite characters of Alex Sanchez's RAINBOW BOYS is Nelson. Alex Sanchez does a lot of work for GSA and those sort of organizations. In counseling, he's seen a lot of different teenagers. He's great at weaving a story on the page quickly. His RAINBOW BOYS is a Thailand movie, but I still wish there could be an American version.




Recently, I read his novel BAIT which is a lot different than much of his other works. This is a story of a teenage boy from Mexico who comes to the states when his Mom marries an American. He's your typical teenager, in a lot of way..who loves the ocean. He's smart. He's got a best friend. He even has feelings for a girl named Ariel that he's afraid to talk too.

Tyler Posey would be perfect in Diego's part.

And then he punches somebody at school. A gay kid. He just didn't like the way the kid was looking at him. He says. But as his PO learns..there is a lot more to it than that..and it has nothing to do with the gay kid.

Of course, Diego is guilt ridden. He has no where to express the anger he feels about what has happened to himself in the past. Usually, he doesn't punch people who look at him funny. Diego is a cutter, torturing himself in his own prison, so to speak.

If this book could ever be a movie, I'd definitely want Tyler Posey to play the part, or Jonathan Castellanos. Really, its a story that can help others who might be going through a similar situation, or for you to be aware of situations this story is based on.
