Skippy Dies

I've been reading Paul Murray's epic work. He's an Irish writer and its an Irish tale as well.

A friend told me its the next Harry Potter. I wouldn't go that far. It has much more of SKINS feel to it. More of the tale of everyday boy at a boarding school. All boys school, at that. A religious school too, but you won't find the Chocolate War here. Instead you get a feel of the school wanting to move away from religion and focus on modern technology. There are less and less priest as teachers at school. Instead, it in-cooperates a fraternity of those who went to school there..become teachers there. Of course, it doesn't mean its all men. There is a pretty substitute teacher who live'n..things up for the boys as well as the teachers.

The story has many stories going on in it. You've got it on one level of the boys who live there. Then you have the low-lives trying to build up their own drug trade with prescription drugs, by bullying kids. One of my favorite stories is about the young history teacher who lives with his American girlfriend..and their relationship..his friendships with the other teachers and the priests.

I can see "Simon" from the Inbetweeners in that part. I hear this book will be made into a film.

  3. Thanks. It's good to hear from you too.

And yeah . . . it's crazy. I'm sure you know how it is. One day you have nothing to do and the next day you don't even have time to breathe. So.

Ah, Cass & Cady. I've made a note to catch up reading that, see what my namesake is up to (ha) . . . and with your other stories, too. It's been a while. But I always enjoy your stories.
